Claustrophobic movies go way back, and The People Under the Stairs has created a long line of imitators since its release. With a black protagonist in a poverty stricken inner-city setting, this movie is unique for its time. The villains are both hilarious and disturbing, and their madness ever surprising. You'll love hating them, and find yourself emotionally invested in the survival of the main character, Fool.
