OVERALL SCARY

GORE

This was such a good remake. It used the gore and violence to its advantage and made something that really made you cringe. I know that isn't everyone's kind of horror, but for those that don't get grossed out by people hacking off their own limbs with an electric meat carver, it's perfect.

Nothing will ever beat an original, that's a pretty well known fact. But putting comparisons aside this movie had enough action to hold its own. I don't think it will ever need a sequel, EVER! So we will always have the original series to look back on for the ridiculousness it was. This remake, though, I feel was a little bit more serious.

I really enjoyed it, and it's a movie I go back to frequently when I'm in the mood for some horror.

Excellent remake. It's a reinterpretation. If you stop comparing it to the original, you might just have fun.

The director does a great job conveying a feeling of claustrophobia and helplessness, similar to what I experienced when watching The Thing. It pays tribute to the original, while contributing its own ideas.

Great special effects. Very little CGI used. Director stays true to the art of cinema. Not that he doesn't know how to use CGI (he was discovered after creating a low budget YouTube short film called Ataque de Panico, which heavily uses CGI).

I do admit, watching it in the theaters is a different experience than watching it on TV/computer. If you do decide to watch it, it's best to watch it with the lights off and fully immersed, the way it was intended.

GORE

Don't believe the hype. This is not a good horror movie. This movie was entirely made to create money, marketed to spark a nostalgic feeling from those who loved the original. There are a couple jump scares, and there's a considerable amount of gore, but this film is boring, bleak, and uninteresting. If you don't love the original, don't waist time on this remake.
